Moonlight Comedy is an Italian Progressive Metal band which was formed already in 1998. However, The Life Inside is still their debut album. Lately I have received quite a lot of albums from different Italian progmetal bands and while this band doesn't stand comparison with some of the other Italian progmetal bands, this debut album isn't bad. Emiliani Germani has somewhat unique voice... Although it doesn't appeal to me much, it isn't annoying (it just lacks warmth). Amusingly the members prefer to define themselves as "Actors of the comedy at the moonlight".

Songs are average progmetal, they don't offer anything new... Already from the first song obvious Dream Theater influences can be heard. However, the songs aren't utterly incompetent. The biggest disappointment regarding this album are the guitar solos, which for the most part are atonal shred. Otherwise this album is adequate... Some of the songs are better, while others are less successful.

Production on this album is ok... except for the occasional distortion in some of the guitar parts. There are lots of better progressive metal bands out there, but Moonlight Comedy isn't the worst one. If you're a progmetal fan, you should conduct a search for genre 'progressive metal' and see what albums I have reviewed (and considered better than this). But remember, as opinions vary you must be sure to listen samples to see what you think of them. "The Life Inside" isn't bad for a debut, and I believe the forthcoming Moonlight Comedy albums may prove to be good...
