Thanatos, death-wish according to Freud (Freud defined Eros and Thanatos), has released its fourth album... The history of Thanatos goes back to the mid-eighties when they made their first demo tapes. In the early nineties they released two albums, but soon after releasing their second album the band split up. However, Thanatos was reformed in the 1999 and since then they have released two albums and one mini-CD. During Thanatos' lifespan, quite a lot of line-up changes have taken place (there's only one founding member left Stephan Gebdi).

Songs vary from hectic blastbeat madness to slower, grinding doom compositions. However, I would have liked more variety (for example some occasionaly clean vocals). There are guest performances by Ashmedi (Melechesh) and Ed Warby (Gorefest, Star One and Ayreon) on this album. Overall, I'd say this album is quite ordinary death metal album (nothing exceptional). However, it had its good parts.

This album was both recorded and produced at the Excess Studios in Rotterdam, Holland (where Sinister, Houwitzer, Elegy and After Forever among others have been recorded and/or produced)... Attie Bauw (Halford, Gorefest, The Gathering, Melechesh) took care of mastering. For the most part, sounds are felicitous. There's some slight distortion and some parts sounded thin, but nothing severe.

Overall, Thanatos' latest album is ordinary death metal album which doesn't offer anything new... So if you're a fan of the band or the genre, you may like this album. However, I recommend you to listen before buying (in order for you to form your own opinion).
